“Buhari Treks 800 Meters” – Presidency Says Its A Sign To Show He’s Fit For 2019

After the Eid prayers, president Muhammad buhari trek down 800 metres, all to show Nigerian that he is capable for 2019
A presidential aspirant and incumbent governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, last week alleged that Buhari was “too old’’ to rule the country beyond 2019.
According to Tambuwal, “President Muhammadu Buhari is just too old to be Nigeria’s leader, despite his integrity and impeccable character.” Tambuwal stated this during a solidarity visit of students and youth in Sokoto, last week.
“We love President Buhari and that was why we supported him in 2015 unconditionally, and while doing that, we are too sure that he will seek re-election after his first term. But when things are wrong, we have to tell him.
“We still believe in his integrity, patriotism and courage, but these are not enough for a leader.
“We all know that there is a vacuum in the government occasioned by his indisposition probably because of his old age or health condition.
“That is why Nigerians are yearning for younger ones to lead this country.’’
However, Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, said the trekking by the president was a positive response to Tambuwal’s diatribe.
“I think there are two things here; one is to say that the President is responsive to the enormous support and commitment of his own people that had come out in their numbers to see him and he just decided that he couldn’t go on riding in a black vehicle and he came out and walked to the distance.
“The second thing, he is curious that these days, one or two people who are aspiring to be president are campaigning on their youthfulness and good health.
“I think the president has done one thing today – that the issue is not how old one is but how fit he is ; how healthy he is. Now that the president has proven his fitness and well-being to continue in office is a settled matter
“I think that if people want to campaign against him they should do so on issues that are of significance to Nigerians. The President is fit, he is healthy; he is good to go for second term,’’ he said.

Sea turns blood red as entire village including young children round up and slaughter 180 whales in preparation for the harsh winter months on the remote Faroe Islands

These images show dozens of villagers on a remote Atlantic island hunting down and slaughtering a pod of whales, colouring the water red with blood.
The practice, known as whale driving, saw children as young as five take part in the hunt of some 180 whales in the village of Sandavágur on Vágar island last month.
Every summer, hundreds of pilot and beaked whales are killed across the Faroe Islands, a Danish archipelago located hundreds of miles off the Scottish coast between Norway and Iceland.
Hunting season: Dozens of villagers on Vágar, Faroe Islands, gather to help out in the hunting and butchering of a pod of some 180 whales
Butchers: The carcass of a whale is dragged through the water before it is cut up on land by the locals

Tradition: Whale herding looks brutal, but the local government has hit back at critics saying the hunt is sustainable and each whale provides several hundreds of kilos of food for the locals throughout the harsh winter months

The local government says the annual whale hunts ensures that those living on the Faroe Islands, which offers limited opportunities for farming, are able to import less food from abroad

Pull them in: Locals use ropes to pull in the whales' bodies in order to butcher them for meat and blubber

Bloody tradition: Several dead whales lay in the shallows, their blood colouring the sea water red

All in this together: When a pod of whales is herded into the bay, it is time for the whole village to get to work
So it begins: Fishing boats are seen out at sea, herding the pod of whales into the bay of the village
Team effort: As the whales reach the shore, dozens of villagers run out into the water to take part in the hunt
Hunted: The whales have been driven into the shallows where locals then jump in and kill them using a 'spinal lance'
Two young Faroe men have killed a whale  which is now bleeding out into the water

Aftermath: The bay on a Faroe Island is red with whale blood after the hunt is over
Remote location: The islands, which are a part of Denmark, are located in the Atlantic - between Norway and Iceland

Yinka Ayefele’s Fresh FM demolition not act of witchhunt – Oyo Government

Ayefele had in a statement on Wednesday noted that “saying that Music House Complex is responsible for three accidents that occurred on the road in the last nine months is just an attempt by the Commissioner to run away from his shadow. How can a reasonable person say that?
The Oyo State Government on Wednesday explained that the demolition notice given to the Music House, which houses Fresh FM, Ibadan, a private radio station owned by a popular Juju musician, Mr. Yinka Ayefele was not based on sentiment or witch-hunting.
It is not news that the Governor of the state himself said some politicians came to him to demolish the Music House Complex because Ayefele is not in their camp and he also sang against them. We have the Governor on tape, so the Commissioner should look for another excuse”.The radio station fans, who gathered under the banner of Fresh FM Ibadan fans Thursday afternoon, said that the planned demolition was another way by the government to silence the people from having a voice on issues that concern them.
The fans and well wishers of the radio station who besieged gates of the radio station said they would continue to protest against the government’s demolition attempt.

Father keeps own son locked up in a cage for seven years

The little boy would end up feeding on his faeces and this was confirmed after he attempted to do so when he came out of the confinement

IN SUMMARY

  • Residents of the town council were, however, appalled and condemned Police for releasing the suspect who is said to have locked up the boy at the age of six. The boy is now 13 years old.
  • Ms Naluggwa, a teacher and mother of the boy had parted ways with the suspect and says she knew nothing about her son’s condition. In her statement at police, Ms Naluggwa said her former husband reassured her that their son had been taken to Europe for treatment and she had no reason to worry.
  • Police are still hunting for the boy’s stepmother who was staying with the suspect. She reportedly fled the house after police stormed their home last week.
A 45-year-old Byakabanda parish chief in Rakai Town Council in Rakai District has been given police bond after being arrested over locking up his son (names withheld to protect the child) in a small room for the past seven years because he is mentally ill. He is said to have done so, so that he could be isolated from his other children.
Residents of the town council were, however, appalled and condemned Police for releasing the suspect who is said to have locked up the boy at the age of six. The boy is now 13 years old.
“Child neglect or torture is a serious offence and we couldn’t expect any right-thinking member of society and a parent to do it,” Mr Issa Mutaawe, a resident in Rakai Town said during an interview on Wednesday. He says they are yet to hold a village meeting and discuss the matter if at all Police fails to handle the case.
Last week, a priest at Kasozi Catholic Parish in Rakai District identified as Fr Rafael Tebukozza got information that a child had been locked in a “cage” and barked like a dog in the nearby town.
The priest first thought it was a rumour, but was shocked when he arrived at the suspect’s residence in Rakai Central Village and heard the child making strange sounds.
Accompanied by Police officers led by Ms Patience Baganzi, the Rakai District Police Commander, the priest called the boy’s father out of his house and requested him to open the room that was stinking. Only a few brave people managed to get close to the room due to an unbearable smell that was emanating from inside.
The sight of the child shocked every one. His hair looked like a sheep's skin whereas his nails were very long and looked like claws. Despite his age, the boy could hardly speak. Worse still, he was so malnourished that onlookers thought he was only four years old.
“I could not believe what I saw. It is quite obvious that his parents had intentionally left him to rot in a room, but the living God saved him and we are going to take care of him as a church,” Fr Tebukooza said when he saw the child.
It was at this point that Tebukooza, along with the police took the suspect to the police station.
According to Baganzi, the suspect was asked to go and explain to the mother of the child, Josephine Naluggwa what he had done and apologise to the community. She says the boy’s father gave Naluggwa some money (about Shs200,000) and a few other items but he did not admit his wrong-doing or apologise to the community. She says they intend to re-arrest him.
Ms Naluggwa, a teacher and mother of the boy had parted ways with the suspect and says she knew nothing about her son’s condition. In her statement at police, Ms Naluggwa said her former husband reassured her that their son had been taken to Europe for treatment and she had no reason to worry.
“The suspect took the boy away from me at the age of six and said he had got Good Samaritans from Canada who were ready to treat him for free. I continuously asked for updates about the boy’s situation, but was told to be patient because the child was to return very soon,” she said.
Some of suspect’s neigbours who preferred anonymity, to speak freely about the child’s condition, said this case had earlier on been reported to Police, but to their surprise, no action was taken.
They said the boy was not allowed to eat from a plate and was only served food once in two days.
“The little boy would end up feeding on his faeces and this was confirmed after he attempted to do so when he came out of the confinement,” one of the neighours said.
They further wondered why Police gave bond to the suspect and never followed up the case. Mr Joseph Ssendagi, the Rakai District probation officer said he will not rest until Police takes action against the boy’s father.
“We struggled so much to ensure that the suspect got arrested. I now wonder why Police can't help in forwarding his case file to court. We are not going to rest until he is arrested and charged in court,” he said.
The boy’s father denied all the allegations levelled against him, and insisted that the boy was not being mistreated, but instead given maximum care in the small room and was yet to be removed and taken to school.
However, Mr Grace Pande, the Rakai District criminal investigations officer said Police had not received any complaints from residents that the boy was being mistreated.
“I don't even know what you are talking about. No one has reported such a case here,” he said.
Police are still hunting for the boy’s stepmother who was staying with the suspect. She reportedly fled the house after police stormed their home last week.

  1. There is relief and hope now that the church has decided to look after the child; The boy’s father seems to have no problem with this. But for many, the question as to what possessed him to lock up his biological son in a room for seven years will remain unanswered.

Breaking! Victor Moses quits Super Eagles

Chelsea and Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses has announced his retirement from international football with Nigeria. He made this decision to “focus fully”on his club career and spend more time with his family.

Moses was born in Lagos, Nigeria. When he was 11, his parents were killed in religious riots in Kaduna when rioters invaded their home. Moses was playing football in the street at the time. A week later, after being hidden by friends, his relatives paid for him to travel to the UK to claim asylum. He was placed with a foster family in South London.

Moses was selected to play for Nigeria against Guatemala in February 2011, but the friendly was cancelled. He then accepted a call-up in March 2011 for Nigeria’s games against Ethiopia and Kenya. However, he was ruled out of those games because his application to FIFA to switch nationalities was not received in time. It was announced on 1 November 2011 that FIFA had cleared both Moses and Shola Ameobi to play for Nigeria. Moses was called up to Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring two penalties in their final group stage game against Ethiopia, which Nigeria needed to win to go through. For the second, Ethiopian goalkeeper Sisay Bancha was given his second booking in the events leading to the penalty and was sent off. Ethiopia had already used all three substitutes so their holding midfielder went in goal, and missed Moses’ penalty. The game ended 2–0. Nigeria went on to win the tournament, their third such title. Moses started in the final and played the entire game.
